Groupon and on and on…

Word on the street is that my favorite “deal app” and one of Chicago’s largest start-ups just laid-off 20 people from their marketing department. Why? Easy. A decrease in website traffic leading to less revenue since this point last year. That said, I feel like there’s nothing to worry about, and Groupon’s not going anywhere.

So — just a quick recap on my experience with this money-saving app. My favorite part is that one minute I could be drooling over a $15 for $30 deal at that new Indian restaurant up the street, and the next I’m clinching a month of unlimited kickboxing classes for $29 at a box gym with a solid rep. Both things I’ve been wanting to try, and saving a bunch of cash from Groupon.com, gave me that final push.

And it’s not all just fun and games either. You can actually discover a new 5-start dentist in your neighborhood, find a sick deal on some new CBD gummies or a snag a new pair of your favorite compression socks for half off. Point is, you can find tons of practical, everyday things you need, or think-you-need items priced lower than a retail store, all from your good pal Groupon.

But, don’t just take my opinion. Ask Groupon super-user, actress and comedy superstar Tiffany Haddish why she’s been a number one fan for years. So much, she became the brand’s prime spokesperson beginning in 2018, and featured in several commercials, Groupon’s social media and YouTube channels and even a featured TV spot airing in the Super Bowl LIII.

Tiffany’s campaign capitalized on how Groupon not only includes some pretty brag-worthy deals, but introduces users to new small businesses in the neighborhood, they might have never heard of. Like, not only that dentist, but a new cryotherapy recovery clinic, alcohol-infused shake shop or an expert AC repair shop just in time for summer.

From a two-for one pizza deal at Motel Bar in Chicago, to deals with millions of stores, companies and entertainment venues across the nation, I feel there’s no end in sight for Groupon. Although they might have to find some new ways to keep reeling in new customers and keeping the super-users happy, no other dot com is this bomb when it comes to saving than Groupon.
